McLaren F1

   The McLaren F1 was produced since 1993. This supercar is available as a 3-seat coupe. Only 107 of these cars were built and it was the fastest production car at it's time.

   The McLaren F1 was developed by a Grand Prix team. It is powered by a custom-built BMW 6.1-liter engine, developing 620 horsepower. It hits the 100 km/h (60 mph) mark in just 3.1 seconds, while after 30 seconds speed of the McLaren F1 will be over 300 km/h. Only a few supercars have such a fast acceleration.

   This car has not only got plenty of raw power, but it also handles well. It is worth mentioning that the steering is rather heavy, as well as the brakes. Everything is made that easy, tat no special skils are required to drive this car.

   When the engine is free-reving it sounds just as an ordinary car's. Unfortunately there is plenty of engine and road noise inside the McLaren F1 and you have to raise your voice for the passengers to hear you, but it doesn't really matter as this car 'blends' with the driver much better than any other supercar.

   The McLaren F1 is a very desirable supercar, but it's astonishing price and limited production numbers mean that you will be very lucky to see one. Only 21 car was reportedly sold to the USA. It's production ended in 1998, but in reality it's not even a 'production' car with only a tiny number being built.

   To make it light a number of expensive materials were used including carbon fiber, titanium, magnesium and gold. Furthermore it was on of the first production cars to have a carbon fiber monocoque chassis.

   Interior of the McLaren F1 is spartan - not too nice and not too impressive, but everything is made very functional. All the mayor controls are positioned clearly and are easy to read.

   Driving position of the McLaren F1 is unusual. Driver seats in the center of the car and it somehow resembles the F1 cars. It is tricky to get in front of the wheel and it takes time to practice it.

   It is claimed that the F1 passed it's crash tests successfully and is as safe in a car accident as other road cars.

   Advantages: Developed by a Grand Prix team the McLaren F1 is much more charming than most of the supercars. Easy to drive for everyone.

   Disadvantages: It takes some time to get in front of the wheel and this process is uncomfortable. Interior do not impresses.

   Verdict: A road going F1 with a killer instinct.
