The Lexus SC 430 is produced
since 2001. It is available as a convertible.
This sports car is
powered by a 4.3-liter V8 engine, developing 288 hp. Considering the
car's weight it acceleration is really impressive. In gear
acceleration is even better, making overtaking easy. The Lexus SC
comes with a smart five-speed automatic gearbox only, which is very
accurate and delivers power smoothly even under full throttle.
The previous Lexus SC was
criticized for it's ride. The SC 430 comes with monotube dampers for
better rode quality and handling, however it is still not on a par
with it's German rivals. Ride of the Lexus SC is still harsh and
there is lots of bodyroll through corners.
The powerful 4.3-liter
engine is very inaudible. There is also very little wind noise with
the roof up, because of the low drag coefficient. It absorbs some
wind noise even with the roof down. However tyres kick up some
noise.
The Lexus SC is a great
used purchase. It has a reasonable fuel consumption for a luxury
sports convertible. It appears that this
car holds it's value well, while Lexus is famous for building very
reliable cars.
Interior of the car is
built to the highest standards. Panel gaps are even and controls
operate with slick precision. Overall refinement of the SC 430 is
excellent. Wood trim might not be to all tastes though. All the
mayor controls are well placed and Lexus touch-screen controls are
one of the simplest around. Electric roof is very easy to operate.
Driver's seat and
steering wheel have plenty of adjustments. Front power-adjusted
seats are supportive, unfortunately a stylish part-wood-rimmed
steering wheel is a little slippy. All-round visibility is slightly
restricted by the car's shape. The rear visibility particularly is a
weak point if the roof is in place.
The front passengers have
a reasonable amount of room, however it do not apply for the
passengers on the rear seats. At the back legroom is not sufficient
even for children, while access to the rear seats is also
uncomfortable. With the roof down boot is very tiny, so the rear
seats are best kept for luggage.
On the safety list there
are front and side airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic
brakeforce distribution and stability control. Doors of the SC
automatically unlock if the accident has happened. There are also a
number of smart electronic aids intended to prevent accidents.
It is a gadget-lover's
dream. There are no options
buying the Lexus SC. The only model comes very well equipped. It comes with climate control, cruise control,
full leather interior, wood trim, electric windows, mirrors and
seats, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers and plenty of other
standard toys. Almost everything you may want is included.
Production of the Lexus
SC 430 still continues.
Advantages: The
Lexus SC has an amazing build quality and refinement. It has strong
residual values and comes well equipped.
Disadvantages:
Rivals offer more prestige and practicality for the same price.
Interior is little cramped.
Verdict: The Lexus
SC is a great used purchase.
