The Lamborghini
Gallardo
is produced since 2003.
This car comes with
5.0-litre V10 engine, developing nearly 500 horsepower and will get
you from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Such an astonishing
engine power gives it a rapid acceleration at any speed. Six-speed
manual gearbox is standard, however there is a choice of a
paddle-shift 'box.
The Lamborghini Gallardo
is not only a straightline dragster, it also corners well. It's
mid-engine arrangement gives it a good balance and weight
distribution between axles. This car has plenty of grip and keeps
the road well, because of standard four-wheel drive. The Gallardo is
surprisingly comfortable on long trips.
This car is more much
more refined comparing with other supercars. Some road noise is
present, but it's not tiring even at high speed. Lamborghini's
engine produces sweet roar, but only if you push it hard.
There was a significant
demand on Gallardo despite its high price and running costs. Only
few can afford to pay it's price, but if you have one, it's fuel
bills and servicing costs shouldn't be an issue. Gallardo's residual
value is rock solid comparing with other supercars. Another good
thing about this car is that it is rather simple and some of
mechanics are already proven. Unfortunately it's servicing intervals
are short.
Inside the cabin
everything is extremely well made from the best materials and
fabrics, not like in older Lamborghinis. Gallardo is made in
cooperation with Audi and you can find a clear Audi's influence
here. In fact the centre console was borrowed form the Audi A3.
Behind the wheel it is
easy to find a comfortable driving position, due to the driver's
seat and steering wheel movement. The rear visibility is cramped
because of the mid-engined layout though.
A supercar is not the
best choice if you want something practical, however inside Gallardo
there is plenty of space for the driver and passenger. However the
boot is very small because of the mid-engined layout.
On the safety list there
are twin front and side airbags, electronic stability control and
anti-lock brakes on every Gallardo as standard. There is also
standard central locking, but you must pay more for extra goodies.
For the price of a house,
you should expect a generous list of equipment provided as standard
and you won't be disappointed. Climate control, leather seats and a
CD player come as standard in Gallardo. But extra cash will give you
much more goodies.
Advantages:
Stunning looks and acceleration. This supercar is very driveable and
easy to live with comparing with it's rivals.
Disadvantages:
Limited visibility makes it awkward to park and reverse.
Verdict: One of
the best in 500 hp class.
Also
consider:
Aston Martin DB9,
Ferrari 430.
