The Honda S2000 is
manufactured since 1999.
This car comes with a 2.0-liter
VTEC engine which develops 237 hp and will take you from 0 to 100
km/h in just 6.2 seconds. Simmilar to all VTECs the S2000 delivers
all it's power on the high revs, but acceleration at low- and
mid-range is sluggish.
Honda S2000 has a traditional sports car's
arrangement with engine in front and the rear driven wheels.
Handling is sharp and accurate, while the car has plenty of grip and
keeps the road well. Manufacturers improvements in 2004 made
handling even better, while suspension became more forgiving for
riding over bumps and lumps.
Engine of the Honda S2000 is noisy,
however you can find this sound amazing. Wind noise is very
intrusive with the roof down, especially at high speed.
The Honda S2000 is not expensive to
buy, considering price of it's rivals. However you will struggle to
get 10 l /100km on average (30 mpg) as the fuel consumption is
rather high. The S2000 is very reliable as all the other Honda models.
Inside the car interior is well built,
durable and nicely fitted together. There are some elegant sporty
details, as the steering wheel, pedals and gearlever, made from a
first-class materials, which give luxurious feel.
This car isn't suitable for larger
drivers because there is a lack of space in cabin. Steering wheel
and drivers lack adjustments.
The S2000 is intended
only for two people, but it's quite a squash if you fit two adults in this car.
Also there are very few oddment spaces for your stuff. The
boot isn't practical, because you only can carry very little luggage in
it.
From the safety list there are standard
two front airbags and anti-lock brakes. However
stability control is absent, but it is standard in most rivals. Also
the S2000 is an easy candy for a thieves as there are some security
gaps with it.
Equipment level of the
Honda S2000 is only average. It is offered with electric hood,
windows and mirrors, leather upholstery, alloy wheels and some other
minor trim goodies.
Production of the Honda
S2000 still continues and the 2007 model hasn't got any significant
changes comparing with the previous.
Advantages:
Affordable convertible, that's nice to be seen in.
Disadvantages:
Engine feels lifeless at low- and mid-range revs.
Verdict: Very
focused, which can appeal or detract.
Also consider:
BMW Z4,
Porsche Boxster.
