The Dodge Challenger is produced since 2008. It is a 2-door coupe, that shares common design elements with the original Challenger, produced in the early 1970s.

This muscle car is available with three petrol engines. The entry-level 3.5-liter V6 has enough oomph to keep up with the traffic, but feels underpowered for this heavy car. The 5.7-liter V8 is more suited for this muscle car. Furthermore it looses only 2 mpg to the 3.5-liter model. The hottest SRT8 version is fitted with 6.1-liter Hemi V8 engine, developing 425 hp. The Dodge Challenger is available with 4-speed (3.5 V6) and 5-speed automatic gearboxes or 6-speed manual (6.1 V8). Hemi engines use multiple displacement feature, that switches off cylinders to save fuel. However this car is not particularly fuel efficient.

This muscle car is well priced. Furthermore the hottest Challenger SRT8 costs half the price of the Dodge Viper. It can be used everyday if you won't mind the firm suspension. On the road Challenger behaves well, but is always ready to flex its muscles.

The Challenger uses shortened platform of the Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum and Chrysler 300. These cars proved to be reliable, so there should be no major issues with the Challenger.

This car has appealing looks, however interior could be better. There is nothing retro or stylish inside. Materials are only average and colors are dark. Despite these drawbacks interior is functional.

It is worth mentioning that the rear seat is more roomier than most expect. The back seats can accommodate two adults, however legroom is limited. The 60/40 split rear seats can be folded to expand the trunk. The Challenger avoids compromised rear seat and trunk space because of it's size.

The Challenger comes with multi-stage front airbags and curtain airbags for both seating rows. This car is also fitted tyre-pressure monitor.

The Dodge Challenger is available with SE, R/T and SRT8 trims. Standard features of the base model include air conditioning, electric windows, mirrors and door locks, cruise control and 17" alloy wheels.

   Advantages: Appealing looks.

Disadvantages: Achilles hill of this car is weight.

Verdict: A very distinctive look with a moderate price and considerable performance.

Also consider: Ford Mustang, Pontiac G8.
