The Chevrolet Corvette C6 is produced since 2005. It is available as a coupe or convertible.

This car comes with a 6.0-liter V8 engine, which develops 405 hp and will get you from 0 to 100 km/h (60 mph) in just 4.5 seconds. If it seems to slow for you, go for a Corvette Z06, powered by a 7.0-liter unit developing over 500 horsepower. Acceleration is rapid at any speed in five or six-speed gearboxes, while the sixth gear is used for cruising only. It is worth mentioning that the gearbox needs a hefty shove to kick the gear in.

The new Corvette is not only a straightline dragster, it also corners well. This car has plenty of grip and keeps the road well. However riding over bumps and lumps becomes awkward. Steering is sharp and accurate, but could give more feedback to the driver.

With the roof panel in place road noise protrudes to the cabin, but the wind noise is well contained. With the roof panel off and wind noise becomes an issue at the motorway speed, however calmness returns as the speed goes down. Exhaust note is present all the time, but it is a kind of sound you will like to hear.

The Chevrolet Corvette is a bit of a bargain, considering it's price and performance. The real expenses come at the petrol station as the claimed manufacturers fuel consumption is quiet hard to hit. Servicing is also pricey. Currently the Chevrolet Corvette sells well, so residual values should be strong. Another good thing about this car is that it's fairy simple and some of mechanics is already proven.

Inside the car some of the plastics on the center console and central tunnel feel less than sturdy though. The dashboard is simple and clear, while the head-up display is brilliant, but comes with an expensive option pack. Unfortunately storage space inside the cabin is on the sparse side.

Drivers seat is electrically adjustable. Leather-bounded steering wheel adjusts for height and reach as well, so it shouldn't be a problem to find a comfortable driving position.

There is plenty of space for the driver and passenger inside the Chevrolet Corvette. The boot space is fantastic. Even if you will keep it to store the roof panels you will still manage to get in all your luggage.

From the safety list there are four airbags, traction control and stability control on every Corvette as standard. Alarm and immobilizer are also standard, but deadlocks are not available even as an option.

All cars come with keyless entry and push-button starting. Leather upholstery, climate control and large alloys come as standard. However other optional equipment, such as the satellite navigation might be pricey.

Production of the Chevrolet Corvette C6 still continues.

Advantages: The Chevrolet Corvette has a lightning performance. Furthermore it has a very good value for money.

Disadvantages: Thirsty on petrol. Some interior plastics are poor.

Verdict: The new Corvette is better than ever.

Also consider: Dodge Viper, TVR Sagaris.
