   The BMW M6 is produced since 2005. The M6 is powered by a storming 507 hp 5.0-liter V10. This engine delivers extremely strong low and mid-range urge, blasting you to 100 km/h (60 mph) in under 5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

   The 6-series is the sort of car that can put a whole country behind it in a day and leave you feeling totally fresh, or serve up real driver enjoyment on a twisting road by disguising its considerable bulk. There are electronic driver aids aplenty, and it rides really well, even on optional 19-inch wheels.

   The M6 howls gloriously under acceleration but is otherwise quiet.

   Running costs are going to be high. Other motors from the BMW 6-series range offer better fuel economy comparing with the M6. The car will be pretty rare in the, which might help resale values.

   In generally the 6-series adopts much of the look and materials of the current 5-series on which it is based, so it looks, feels and smells expensive, even if it doesn't have the warmth of a Jaguar XK or a Maserati. Mechanical reliability holds no fears, but some of BMW's latest complicated electronics can go wrong.

   A comprehensive selection of active driver aids and passive safety protection is fitted to every 6-series as standard, so it's fair to say the car looks after its occupants well. Given BMW's security record, the 6-series should be well defended against thieves, too.

   Few drivers are likely to have difficulty adjusting the wheel and pedals to their preferred position, or to complain about the room afforded them. What they might struggle with is judging the front and rear of the car in tight maneuvers, or the fussy iDrive rotary control that works the climate, stereo, navigation and phone systems.

   The 6-series is a two-plus-two, but only if the rear passengers are children: legroom is insufficient for adults, even for short journeys. The boot will take two sets of golf clubs or enough luggage to justify the car's grand tourer status.

   The list of standard equipment is everything you'd expect to find in a BMW M6 coupe, but you can send your invoice rocketing by playing pick and mix from the extensive list of options. Additional electronic driver aids, bigger wheels and tyres, navigation, voice-activated iDrive controls and even a head-up instrument display on the screen are all available.

   Production of the BMW M6 still continues.


   Advantages: Extremely powerful 5.0 V10 engine makes puts the M6 in line with the supercars.

   Disadvantages: Visibility is restricted and there's only sufficient rear legroom for children. You'll need deep pockets to run it.
