The Mercedes-Benz C-class is produced
since 2007. It is available as a sedan.
The new C-class comes
with a wide range of engines, including a mix of old and new units.
There is an increase in weight with the new model, while some older
engines were uprated. The most reasonable buy is the C220
turbodiesel, which has enough urge and is also fuel efficient. The
hottest C350 V6 petrol has plenty of punch and will put to same a
number of sports car. There is a choice of a 6-speed manual or 5- or
7-speed automatic gearboxes.
The new Mercedes-Benz
C-class is more satisfying to drive than the previous model. It has
a stiffer body, while the engine is located further back for a
better body balance. The new C-class comes with a new suspension
which made it more comfortable to ride, while the handling is
sharper. The sportier models are available with a sports suspension
package.
The cabin is well
insulated, but some noises are still present. Some wind rustles
around the door mirrors are heard at the motorway speed, while some
road noise is present on coarse surface, however it's not too
excessive.
The new Mercedes-Benz
C-class will hold it's value well - just as well as it's predecessor
did. Improved engines are more fuel efficient, while their power was
slightly increased. It's mechanics is perfectly engineered, so there
should be no concerns about reliability. Test cars went over 20
million kilometers of testing.
Inside the car build
quality seems excellent. The only disappointment is a shiny-looking
dash plastic. The new Mercedes-Benz S-class has a central rotary
control and screen, previously found with the luxury
S-class. It gives an access to most of
the hi-tech goodies, but takes time to get used to. Switchgear is
logically arranged and easy to operate.
The new Mercedes-Benz
C-class has a nice fully-adjustable driving position with plenty of
room for the driver. Furthermore the new C-class is longer
and wider than the previous model, and the rear passengers benefit
most from this increase in size. There is more than enough head- and
legroom even for taller passengers. The boot also became larger and
is well shaped.
The new Mercedes-Benz
C-class comes with seven airbags. There is even a drivers knee 'bag
fitted as standard. Stability control and uprated anti-lock brakes
are also fitted as standard.
The new C-class is
offered in three trim levels - SE, Elegance and Sport, while all of
them have at least the same level of equipment as the previous
model.
Advantages: Fast,
spacious and classy. Plenty of models to suit every taste.
Disadvantages:
Shiny and cheap-looking dash plastics. Some wind noise is present.
Verdict: The new C-class is
bigger in size and perfection.
Also consider:
Audi A4,
BMW 3-series.
