The Lexus LS 430 was produced
since 2001. It is available as a sedan. This model was
discontinued in 2006. It was replaced with the new Lexus LS 460.
There is only one engine
available and it is a 4.3-liter V8. It has a considerable pull, even
though the car weights around two tones. The LS 430 comes with a
six-speed automatic gearbox as standard, so the car takes off
swiftly, cruises effortless and accelerates rapidly at any speed.
The Lexus developed an
air-sprung suspension for this car, which ride quality is similar to
the
Mercedes-Benz S-class. This
suspension has a variable ride height, which can be adjusted riding
on rough roads. The handling is fine considering the car's class,
furthermore it grips well and body lean is not excessive comparing
with the rivals.
The powerful V8 engine
runs silently and you have to rev it hard to remind that it is still
there. Tyre noise is virtually absent. Only a slight wind noise
protrudes inside the cabin, but it is heard only because there are
no other disturbing engine and tyre sounds to cover it.
The Lexus LS do not comes
cheap. Furthermore it's maintenance and servicing are expensive,
while fuel consumption is high. When it comes to sell it the LS
retains less of it's value than the
Mercedes-Benz S-class. However it's mechanics is faultlessly
built and it will virtually last forever if serviced regularly. As
typical with Lexus nothing should go wrong with it.
Interior of the car is
beautifully damped and there is a quality feel in the every single
detail. The Lexus LS 430 comes loaded with plenty of controls and
adjustments, but a sheer number of gadgets before you can be
confusing and distracting, in case if you drive the car yourself.
The driver's seat and the
steering wheel have have a fantastic levels of adjustability.
However some things like a high driving position and heavily-padded
seats may not be to everyone's taste.
The Lexus LS 430 is also
available in a longer wheelbase version, which provides really
enormous space both inside the cabin and in the boot. The rear
passengers benefit most from that extra space.
Even the cheapest Lexus
LS comes with 10 airbags, including the knee 'bags for the front
occupants. The list of active safety features is impressive.
Traction control is fitted as standard. As every Lexus, the LS is a
tough nut for the thieves, as this car is hard to drive away.
The LS has every
imaginable labour-saving devices fitted as standard, and things like
all-electric windows and door mirrors are overshadowed. It's
equipment includes air-conditioned seats, keyless entry,
full-leather trim and rain-sensing vipers.
Advantages:
Perfect build quality and comes fully loaded with labour-saving
devices.
Disadvantages:
Does not have the image and looks of the European competitors. Not
as nice to drive yourself.
Verdict: Hire a driver and
take a place on the rear seats.
Also consider:
BMW 7-series,
Mercedes-Benz S-class.
