The Lexus GS of the third
generation is produced
since 2006. It is available as a sedan.
The GS comes with a
choice of four engines. All of them are powerful and flexible, while
surprisingly, all of them are very fuel efficient for their
displacement and power output. The range topping 4.5-liter hybrid
engine is the quickest and the most fuel efficient of all. All
engines are coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The latest Lexus GS comes
with a new aluminum suspension. It holds the road well, helped by a
number of electronic driver aids. Furthermore it has a good body
control for a bulky executive car. The ride is very smooth and
absorbs all but the largest bumps and lumps. Unfortunately it's
steering do not gives enough feedback to the driver.
The Lexus GS is well
isolated from the outside noises, that barely any of them is heard
at all. It's engines whisper even when pushed to the limit, while
there are no wind rustles even at the high speed, exceeding speed
limits.
The Lexus GS is more
expensive to buy than some of it's German rivals. However it is
still a sound bet, as this car comes fully loaded with various
hi-tech gadgets. The new Lexus GS is fuel efficient, especially the
hybrid model, furthermore resale values are much stronger comparing
withthe previous model. The Lexus made his name as building reliable
cars, so don't expect any major breakdowns and buy it with
confidence.
In side the car fit and
finish are exemplary. Interior is stylish, while some nice details,
like the dials are work of art. All the major controls are readily
available, while the minor ones are hidden under the dropping down
panel. A great number of functions offered by this car will take
some time to get used to.
Driver gets electrically
adjustable steering wheel and seats, so it's easy to find a
comfortable driving position. The less welcome thing it that the
seats do not give enough support.
Unlike previous model the
new Lexus GS offers plenty of space for the rear passengers, only
the rear foot-room being slightly limited. The GS has a huge boot,
except the hybrid model, which packs a bulky battery pack in place
of your luggage.
Even the entry-level
model comes with 10 airbags, traction and stability controls. Top of
the range models are offered with a total of 12 airbags and smart
safety system, which monitors the distance to the car in front and
brakes and pre-tensions seatbelts if a collision is inevitable. The
other good thing about Lexus is that these cars are hard to drive
away.
All models come fully
loaded with luxury goodies, including leather upholstery, heated and
cooled front seats, touch-screen display, parking camera and other
things as standard. The top-trim models are offered with every
imaginable luxury item.
Production of the Lexus
GS III still continues.
Advantages: Drives
better than it's predecessor, while having more rear space and
plenty of luxury toys.
The GS comes with powerful and fuel efficient engines.
Disadvantages:
Plenty of hi-tech aids, but driver is detached from the driving
process.
Verdict: A good value for
your money.
Also consider:
BMW 5-series,
Jaguar S-type.
