The Audi A2 was was produced between 2000 and 2005. A 1.4-liter engine may not sound much, but it is more than enough for a light car to keep up with the traffic. It's turbo diesel engines have a good low-down pull. Furthermore car manufacturers did as much as they could to keep the fuel consumption as low as possible. Despite it's small size, the Audi A2 also feels sprightly and stable on the open road and cruises well at motorway speed. Unfortunately the ride is unsettled riding over a coarse surface. Furthermore if you will go for a tuned Sport suspension it will be even less pleasent to drive over the lumps and potholes. The Audi A2 is smooth and quiet on the motorway. Furthermore wind and road noises are certainly not the issue, considering it's high roof and bulky nose that really impresses. Only small engines are rather noisy when worked hard, especially the diesels. The A2 has a strong resale values because of the strong Audi's image. It is also easy on the pocket, as the fuel consumption is excellent, while servicing costs about the same as for it's rivals. Furthermore the small hatchback maintains Audi's reputation for a build quality and reliability. Car's cabin is well built from the high quality materials. Even though it was the cheapest car produced by Audi, it retains the same attention to details. The dash layout is excellent, and shares many controls with the larger Audis. The A2 also has a good driver's position. Steering wheel and the driver's seat have both-way adjustments. Despite being a four-seatter, it is possible to squeeze in five for a short trips. On the bad side there is a sloping roofline, which restricts rear headroom. Legroom is adequate though. The boot is also large for it's class and surprisingly well shaped. This small hatchback scored 4-stars out of five on the Euro NCAP safety tests, so it's safety is adequate. Furthermore not every current car manages to get similar evaluation. The Audi A2 was a cheapest car in Audi's range, but it's equipment levels do not reflect it. Optional equipment includes cruise control, metallic paint and an electric sunroof. Special Edition models come as with a climate control, electric front windows, CD player, alloy wheels and some other standard goodies.
Advantages: Well built, well equipped and reasonably practical. Furthermore it drives well and holds its value better than many rivals. Disadvantages: Expensive for such a small car. Engines let down the overall refinement and it's ride could be more settled. Verdict: Loads of space for four passengers.
