The Citroen C4 is produced since 2004. It is powered by four petrol and three diesel engines. The entry-level petrol develops 90 hp. The 1.6-liter both petrol and diesel engines are good all-rounders, while for the diesel lovers can further go for the 2.0-liter unit with a decent performance and fuel economy. To top it up there is a 2.0-liter petrol, delivering 180 hp, intended for the hot hatch fans.

Unlike the previous Citroens, the C4 has a firm ride, but it also features a good body control and light steering, which do not always gives enough feedback.

The Citroen C4 is well shaped, thus minimizing the wind noise. The cabin is also well isolated from the road noise. Most engines are quiet.

The C4 costs virtually the same as the Renalut Megane, while providing better value for money. It is well equipped, and the running costs are reasonable, but it will be worth less then half of it's initial price after three years.

Inside the C4 everything looks and feels good. Unfortunately the Citroen has a bad reputation for producing unreliable and short on quality motors, but the things are getting better. However it is famous for producing very innovative cars, and inside the C4 there are a number of a non-standard solutions. A number of data on the LCD screens can be confusing.

Both three and five door models provide identical passenger space, but it is only average comparing to it's rivals. Unfortunately a nice design of the C4 leads to the restricted headroom and rear visibility. The rear seats won't suit the tall passengers. The boot is reasonable.

The C4 is generous on safety. Every model comes with a full set of six airbags and electronic driving aids. There's even an optional warning that alerts you if you stay over a white line without indicating.

All trims are completed with cruise control, electric windows and mirrors and a CD player. More expensive models come with air-conditioning and alloy wheels. Top of the range trim is equipped with an automatic windscreen wipers, laminated side windows, CD changer and a parking sensor.

Production of the Citroen C4 still continues.

Advantages: The C4 is an innovative and stylish hatchback, that's also easy to drive.

Disadvantages: Innovative design is short on space and has a restricted rear visibility.
