This car is sold as the Dodge Neon in the United States and as Chrysler Neon for export only. It is a second generation Neon produced since 2000.

There is a choice of three petrol engines. The basic 1.6-liter petrol is the same unit found on the MINI. The top of the range is a 2.0-liter engine, providing 133 hp, besides acceleration is a weak point of all Neons.

Neon suspension works well on the motorways, but the ride is a bit rough over bumps, lumps and potholes. Automatic gearboxes had a poorly set up gearing, however it was fixed during the production process. The engine is noisy and both wind and road noises are noticeable as well.

Fuel economy could be better and it do not keeps it's value nothing near as good as it's competitors.

For it's class Chrysler Neon is reasonably spacious and comfortable. There are plenty of legroom in the back, but the headroom for the rear passengers is restricted. Doorways are fairly large and the boot space is also adequate. The rear seats are split 60/40 to access the boot.

Nothing inside looks or feels cheap. Seats are soft and comfortable.

The Neon is available in a basic SE, sensibly equipped SXT, sporty R/T and a high performance SRT-4 trims. The standard equipment includes CD changer, anti-lock brakes. Electric front windows are standard, however Neon never did get them at the rear. An air-conditioner is available with the SXT model. Unfortunately cruise control and ABS comes only as an options. The R/T comes with a sport suspension, ABS, rear spoiler and some other details. Finally the SRT-4 is a performance model, produced since 2003 till 2005, and completed with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine.

Production of the Dodge / Chrysler neon ended in 2005 as it was replaced with the Dodge Caliber since 2006.

Advantages: The Neon offers a lot of standard equipment for the money, as well as plenty of passenger space.

Disadvantages: Ride and handling are both way bellow class best. Sedan only.

Verdict: Lots of luxury kit can offset the dull drive.

Also consider: Ford Focus, Volkswagen Bora.
