The Maybach 57 is produced since 2002. Extended-wheelbase version of this limo is the Maybach 62. The model number reflects the car's length in decimeters, as it is used to measure yachts.

The Maybach 57 comes with a tuned version of the Mercedes 5.5-liter engine, delivering enormous power of 550 hp. The 57 S, where the S stands for Special comes with a 6.0-liter engine and gets this incredibly heavy limo from 0-100 km/h in just under 5 seconds. All cars are fitted with a five-speed automatic gearbox.

It comes with air springs and adaptive dampers to give maximum comfort. However such design leads to excessive body roll going through the corners. Light steering, car's dimensions and soft ride make it far from well controlled driving in towns. The car is much more suitable for business travels.

Some engine noise is deliberately kept present in case you will choose to drive this limousine yourself. Slight wind noise is present at the motorway speed, while there is also some road noise on coarse surfaces.

The Maybach 57 is in the top ten of the most expensive cars in the world and is even pricier than the legendary Rolls-Royce Phantom. In fact it is the most expensive executive car, that is built in quantity. You must have a seriously deep pocket to afford to buy, to fuel, to service and to insure one. However Maybach's residual values are rock solid, as it offers to buy-back it's cars. It's reliability also shouldn't be a concern as a great number of components are shared with the Mercedes-Benz S-class.

Interior and exterior design might not suit every buyer, but it is hard to resist the hand-built quality. A share number of every possible switches and buttons takes time to get familiar with.

Driver has plenty of space and adjustments of major controls. Massive screen pillars restrict visibility. The Maybach 57 is suitable to be driven by it's owner, while the longer 62 offers you it's rear seats.

The rear seats offer more comfort than a first-class air travel. In this executive vehicle everything is focused on the rear passengers. It has masses of space, while the rear seats are fully adjustable. Doors swing nearly 90 degrees for easier access. However the boot could be bigger.

On the safety list of the Maybach 57 there are 10 airbags, a crash frame, and all imaginable electronic driving aids for passive and active protection. Car's security equipment is rather poor for a car with such a price tag, but it is most likely that it will be kept in an armored garage anyway.

Standard equipment has all the luxury goodies, such as 4 zone climate control, TV screens with surround-sound, refrigerator compartment, and much more. Despite that there is plenty of options, such as the gold-plated wheels rims.

Production of the Maybach 57 still continues.

Advantages: Hand-built limo fitted with the all imaginable equipment and luxury goodies. In fact it is more comfortable than he first-class air travel. The Maybach also has an impressive acceleration.

Disadvantages: It's design is not original and won't suit all tastes. Bulky dimensions and soft suspension make it far from the best controlled car.

Verdict: Better to be a passenger rather than the driver.

Also consider: Bentley Arnage, Rolls-Royce Phantom.
