The Chrysler 300 is produced since 2004. It is available as a sedan or a station wagon. This car comes with a choice of four engines. The entry-level 2.7-liter petrol has enough urge, while the more powerful units are never short of performance. The 5.7-liter unit is available on a 300C only, while the top of the range SRT-8 model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (60 mph) in just 5 seconds. A turbo diesel engine is available in some countries. The Chrysler 300 shares some chassis components with a discontinued Mercedes-Benz E-class, however the low speed ride is unsettled. No wonder there is some body float considering it's bulky shape. Surprisingly it handles well round the corners. Engines are quiet, unless revved hard, while the wind and road noises become noticeable only at higher speeds. The wind rustles particularly are created by the bulky shape. The Chrysler 300 is attractively priced. Despite all the technological aids to keep the fuel consumption low, it is still pricey to run. The diesel powered model is a much better owner's proposition. Resale values are likely to be weak after a couple of years. The Chrysler 300M was only average in terms of reliability, but it is claimed that a lot of things have been improved for the new 300. Interior don't look that classy as on some of it's rivals. However driver's position has a huge range of adjustments. A steering wheel moves both ways, while the driver's seat is eight-way adjustable, so most of the driver's will find themselves comfortable. Despite being nice to look at the Chrysler 300 has an awkward visibility. It is hard to determine where the front end ends, while the rear visibility isn't any better. This car would be troublesome to park without the sensors. Big screen pillars also create blind spots while cornering. On the other hand large dimensions and bulky shape give the Chrysler 300 masses of interior space. There is plenty of headroom even for the taller adults, while 5 adults will stretch out in comfort. In generally the 300 is a nice place to while away the miles. The Ford Mondeo offers a larger boot though. The Chrysler 300 has a first-class safety standards. Front, side and window airbags are standard across the range, while the rear airbags are available as an option. This car also comes with an electronic stability control. Deadlocks and immobilizer should hold the thieves for a while. Equipment levels on the 300 puts many rivals to shame. Dual-zone climate control, cruise control, heated leather seats and much more are standard even on the entry-level cars. Production of the Chrysler 300C still continues.
Advantages: The Chrysler 300 is a nice car to be seen in. Plenty of power, and masses of interior space. Even the entry-level models come fully loaded. Disadvantages: The low speed ride is unsettled, while the cabin could be better isolated form the outside noises. Interior is not that smart as on it's European rivals. Verdict: The Chrysler 300 wafts its occupants along serenely. Also consider: Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CTS.
