The Cadillac CTS is produced since 2002.

At the moment it is offered with three engines. All of them have plenty of pull, but the standard automatic gearbox lets the side down. It hinders overtaking and smooth driving on the twisty roads as the gearbox is notchy and imprecise. There is also a CTS-V performance model, powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine.

The Cadillac CTS rides reasonably, but it might be rough going over bumps and urban potholes. However the car is stable at speed and well controlled through the corners.

Engines are noisy as the revs go up, but the exhaust note is rather pleasant to hear. Wind and road noises are occasionally present, but it do not makes you feel uncomfortable.

This Cadillac is not the best car to own outside the USA, considering that there are plenty of similar rivals in this market segment. In Europe and Asia Cadillac's dealership network is rather poor, so buying and servicing the CTS might be pricey and troublesome. Running costs are also worth considering before buying this car. All these things significantly affect it's resale value, which is below average. However if you are an American, this car might suit you well, considering that Cadillac's rating in American satisfaction survey is going up all the time.

Interior build quality and materials cannot match it's rivals, but at least it's reasonably smart and feels durable. The controls are well placed and easy to use.

The Cadillac CTS comes with an electrically adjustable driver's seat. However driver's position is not up to the scratch. Steering wheel adjusts for height only, while the pedals are poorly placed in relation to each other.

The CTS has plenty of rear legroom, but the rear headroom is restricted and taller adults will find it insufficient. The boot is small and poorly shaped because of the suspension intrusions.

Safety equipment is on the strong side though. Every car comes with front, side and curtain airbags, that run the length of the cabin as standard. From the driver's aids there is an electronic stability control. The CTS also comes with an alarm and immobilizer as standard.

Leather seats, climate control, alloy wheels and other luxury goodies are standard on the entry-level models. Optional equipment list is very short and includes metallic paint and electric sunroof.

Production of the Cadillac CTS still continues.

Advantages: The Cadillac CTS has a distinctive looks, strong engines and comes fully loaded with luxury goodies. Furthermore it drives reasonably.

Disadvantages: An automatic gearbox is poorly suited for this car. Expensive servicing and weak residual values outside the USA.

Verdict: Nice car, but can't match it's rivals.

Also consider: BMW 5-series, Chrysler 300.
