The Audi A6 is produced since 2005. It is available as a sedan or station wagon. This car is available with a number of fuel efficient and powerful petrol and diesel engines, including turbocharged and direct injection. The strongest engines are expensive though. A star buy would be a 3.0-liter diesel or 3.2-liter petrol. Both of them are smooth and have a strong pull over a wide range of revs. Both of them are mated with a 6-speed manual gearboxes, and automatic is available only for the diesel. Some models of the Audi A6 are available with all-wheel-drive. For an executive car it's ride is too firm over poor surfaces, however it will appeal to those who want something sporty. Handling of the A6 is sharp, while body roll is only minimal. Steering is light, but slightly hesitant. The S6 model has a stiffened suspension. Engines of the A6 are very hushed, as refinement has not been overlooked. It is worth mentioning that strongest engines sound fantastically. Compared to the German rivals the Audi A6 is expensive to buy and to run. On the other hand resale values are very respectable, but still can't match the class leaders. Reliability shouldn't be a concern, though there were some glitches with the previous model. Inside the car everything is up to the highest standards. Furthermore it is considered that currently Audi produces the best-built executive cars. The dash is well laid out, but the more features are available on your car, the more time it takes to engage one. The Audi A6 fits the gap between a large family car and a limousine. There is a huge amount of head- and legroom for the rear passengers. It also has a surprisingly spacious boot, while the rear seats can be split-folded to take longer items. Current Audi A6 has a stiffer body and stronger crash structure comparing with it's predecessor. On the standard safety list there are six airbags, anti-lock brakes, anti-skid and stability controls. The Audi A8 has a very tough anti-theft protection, so the A6 shouldn't be an exception. The base SE trim comes with climate control, automatic headlights and wipers. Options include adaptive headlamps, that shine round corners. The Audi S6 comes with a sportier interior. Production of the Audi A6 still continues.
Advantages: Distinctive looks for new a6 and a much improved drive. Strong engines are refined and economical. Disadvantages: Ride is still on the firm side. Steering is too light at motorway speeds. Verdict: Spacious and a high quality executive's choice. Also consider: BMW 5-series, Jaguar S-type.
